Denim Shirt

My purchase of a denim shirt has been long overdue. I decided to finally get one from Madewell.  It was on sale with an additional 30 percent off, and I just could not resist the deal!  I have worn the shirt a couple times—over a romper, under a vest and of course with black pants or leggings.

My College Dorm Room

One thing I am going to miss once I graduate college is getting to harness my inner interior designer when deciding how to decorate my dorm room. There is something so exciting about going shopping each year to make my vision for my room come to life.  I was inspired to write this post to share how I decorated my single this year. Check out my room!

When I went to France, I took film and digital pictures of the gorgeous landscape of Provence. My sister and I also designed and screen printed fabric for fun, so I turned it into a pillow case.

I have a view of the Hudson!

When asked to choose between bags and shoes, I will always pick bags! I created a bag display on my shelves since my books do not take up too much space.

I found these posters at a campus street fair one day. They were calling my name!

I hope you enjoyed getting to look at my room 🙂

Spring Outfit Inspiration

Warm, sunny weather always puts me in a good mood.  Here is an outfit that I would wear on a spring day. The ankle boots are perfect for a casual outing, and the vibrant skirt and patterned shirt liven the outfit to complement a beautiful day. This outfit will make you look and feel put together.

Here are some pictures of the outfit from last weekend when my sister and I walked around the city photographing, filming and window shopping.

I’m Feeling 22

Last week, I turned 22!  It was a beautiful sunny day, so my sister and I decided to walk to 5th avenue. A few hours later, my parents arrived bearing gifts and homemade brownies. We ended up going to Hangawi, a vegetarian, Korean restaurant. The restaurant was tranquil and reminiscent of a traditional Korean house. Upon entrance, we were asked to take off our shoes, and our table was at ground level.

I have been to my fair share of restaurants, and Hangawi’s cuisine is the best I have tasted thus far. I ordered the sweet and sour mushrooms, and my family ordered tofu steak, gluten-free tofu broccoli with garlic sauce, dumplings and leek pancakes. Everything on our plates was gone by the end of the night. For dessert, we had cheesecake and blueberry coconut cake.

Needless to say, I had a great birthday. I also got a maxi-dress, sundress, and two shirts to add to my wardrobe. I hope 22 will be a great year!

Francesca’s Clothing Haul and Product Review

The spring semester at Barnard is flying by. I just had a week off, and it was the perfect time for me to do some shopping. Aside from visiting my favorite stores, Artizia, Zara, and Bloomingdales, I made my first purchase at Francesca’s. Francesca’s is a women’s boutique filled with handpicked clothing, jewelry, and accessories from different designers and other boutiques. You are guaranteed to find unique pieces, because they constantly change their selection. When I went, there was a buy one get one 50% off sale on all items and I went a little overboard. At least I need clothes for work!

Here is what I bought. I have no complaints. They are great for the corporate environment and for everyday casual wear.

Like any of the pieces? You can buy them online at Francesca’s, but hurry before they restock!

Two Oufit Staples From Zara

I went to Zara the other day, because I needed a new pair of leggings. Instead of beelining for them, I could not help but take a look around. I ended up purchasing a couple of staple pieces.

First, I picked up a basic white vest top. Click here for the link. I have been looking for a white top like this for a while, but most of the ones I came across were either too thin, or oddly proportioned. This top is perfect because it can be worn under blazers for a more professional look, or dressed down by pairing it with jeans. I imagine that will complement a statement necklace.

Vest Top and Skirt

I also picked up a mini skirt. Click here for the link. This is a great quality piece and was only $19.90. I purchased it in gray, but it also comes in black, maroon, indigo and floral. It is very versatile because of its simplicity. The only downside is that the skirt has a raw hem, which will potentially fray when washed.

Grey Skirt

If you need more basics, these finds at Zara are a great investment.

Vegan Morning Breakfast Smoothie

Nothing gives me more energy in the morning than my breakfast smoothie.  The healthy ingredients that I incorporate keep me attentive throughout the day and full until lunchtime. I use apples, bananas and pears, which help to maintain weight and contain antioxidants, potassium, vitamin C, and fiber. Spinach is high in vitamin A, vitamin C, potassium and iron. This leafy green also benefits your hair and skin.  Cashews and walnuts are loaded with protein. Cashews contain magnesium, which helps memory, and walnuts contribute to brain health.

My 10-minute recipe is below. It makes around a cup and a quarter.

  • 1/2 organic red apple
  • 1/2 organic pear
  • 1/2 organic banana
  • Handful of organic spinach
  • 1/4 cup almond milk (See my homemade recipe!)
  • 1/4 cup coconut water
  • 12 walnuts
  • 12 cashews
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or flavor
  • 1 teaspoon organic agave (optional)
  • 2-4 cubes of ice

  • Cut the apple, banana and pear into small pieces.
  • Place all the ingredients (except the ice) in a blender and blend for 1-2 minutes, or until smooth. (You can use a Magic Bullet or NutriBullet instead.)
  • Add the agave if you want your smoothie a little sweeter, and add ice cubes if you want it colder.
  • Blend for another 15 seconds.

Your smoothie is ready! If you do not finish all of it, store in the refrigerator. It will last a couple days.

Transitioning Your Wardrobe From Winter to Spring

Even though Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow, winter is officially over. It is time to put away heavy winter coats to make room for spring dresses and skirts.

Here are my tips for transitioning your wardrobe from the winter to the spring.

Bright Colors and Prints

Over the winter, you will find me dressed in black almost everyday. One easy thing to do to start transitioning your wardrobe to spring is to incorporate brighter colors into your outfits: yellows, purples, and pastels. Anything goes!

Since we had a cold winter, it may take a while for the weather to warm up. If you opt for dresses, do not go barelegged just yet. Wearing either sheer or opaque tights will allow you to expose your legs and stay warm.

Incorporating layers into your outfit is another good way to stay warm. In the spring, I recommend wearing a light jacket with a thin cardigan or shirt underneath. That way, you can add and remove layers for your comfort.

Accessorizing (Scarves, Jewelry etc.)

I love choosing accessories to go along with my outfits. I can guarantee that you will find me wearing a scarf almost everyday. Incorporating colorful scarves and bags adds an immediate pick me up to a look. If you like to wear jewelry, you can also add rings, bracelets and necklaces.

Tall Boots to Short Boots and Flats

The winter may be over, but you do not have to pack up all your boots. Spring is the perfect time to wear short boots, flats, and sneakers. You can find bright and colorful shoes or wear cute socks underneath your booties. I usually wear my Toms, Supergas, or short Frye boots.

You might want to invest in a trendy umbrella that can fit into your bag. You never know when it is going to rain, so it is good to be prepared.

Here are four outfits I would wear in the spring. Hopefully they can give you inspiration for some more spring looks!

When in Dumbo

Whenever I go to Brooklyn, I am inspired by the culture, architecture, and people. Everywhere I turn is like looking at a beautiful photograph. So, last weekend, I took the A train to Dumbo and captured some of its beauty on film.

The Manhattan Bridge was often a backdrop to the intricate architecture of the neighborhood. I photographed landscapes, friends and families enjoying meals at restaurants, and those strolling by Dumbo’s many high-end and vintage stores. Small cafés and bakeries could be found on every street corner. I refrained from buying a ring pop and hot chocolate on a stick from a candy store. I even made it to Brooklyn Bridge Park, walked a quarter of the Brooklyn Bridge, and ate at a quaint restaurant named AlMar. I had a wonderful time.

I hope to explore Williamsburg soon, so stay tuned for another post. For now, look below to see some highlights of the shoot. The full shoot is posted on my photography page!

Everlane French Terry Field Sweater

Product Review of Everlane French Terry Field Sweater

If you haven’t heard of the online retailer Everlane, go check out their site.  It is a great place to look for staple wardrobe pieces, such as basic tees, leather tote bags, book bags, sweaters, and silk shirts. I recently purchased their French Terry sweater using a $25 credit I received after referring a friend to the site. Below are some photos of the sweater.

This sweater is lightweight and slightly oversized. A band on the bottom of the sweater allows it to hug your jeans. If you want an even looser feel, I recommend purchasing a size up. My favorite way to wear this sweater is with my black skater skirt. I add a leather jacket and a chunky scarf to keep me warm.  The great thing is that you can wear this sweater all year round. It will be great piece to wear on chilly, summer evenings.

Click here if you want to see the sweater on Everlane’s website. It comes in additional colors, some added only a week ago. Make sure to look into their referral program once you are there. Twenty-five dollars is a very generous offer!
